Different kayakers I had met in other parts of Florida had told me about Silver Springs, usually describing it as the premier springs in Florida. Needless to say, I decided to go. I was pleasantly surprised to arrive at the put-in on a Sunday morning to see a dozen or so other kayakers readying their gear to go on the river. I soon discovered that, not one, but two different kayak groups were represented. I was quickly welcomed to join the two groups which I gladly did.
I soon met Roland from Mosquito Lagoon Kayakers and Jack from River Runners, the trip leaders for both groups, along with so many other delightful paddlers from each club that I lost track. We saw lots of wildlife, some of us practiced self-rescue techniques and everyone seemed to have a great time.
Here is a time-lapse video of the first part of the trip:

After the paddle, Roland invited me to join some of them for a late lunch at a (somewhat) nearby seafood joint. After seeing so many gators on the river and then seeing gator on the menu, I decided to try it. Not bad; tastes like chicken – actually more like calamari.
All-in-all, a great day on the water. Thank you Roland, Jack and everyone else for making my day so memorable.
